# Market data

> Retrieve the latest ticks before preparing an opening or closing order.

`GET /api/v1/market/ticks` requires a token and market permission, without account verification.

| Parameter | Usage |
| - | - |
| `symbols` | Required. One or more symbols separated by commas, without spaces |
| `trans_id` | Integer greater than or equal to 0; default `0` |

`symbols` accepts letters, numbers, periods, hyphens, underscores, and commas. Use the
broker's exact names, including suffixes. `trans_id` is forwarded to MT5; the partner
contract does not define a streaming protocol or guarantee an incremental polling strategy.
Use `0` for the initial workflow.

```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"github-light","dark":"github-dark"}}
curl --fail-with-body --get "$API_BASE/api/v1/market/ticks" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $MT5_API_TOKEN" \
  --data-urlencode "symbols=EURUSD,GBPUSD" \
  --data-urlencode "trans_id=0"
```

The response preserves the MT5 envelope (`retcode` and `answer`). Check that a tick
exists for the requested symbol and is suitable for the time of your trade.
Use Ask as the reference for buying and Bid as the reference for selling.

The requested price does not guarantee the final execution price. Confirm symbol
decimals, minimum volume, step, and units with the provider: the portal has no route
for querying symbol specifications. Do not invent a price if ticks are missing.
